Grades 1 and 2 enjoyed a special tallit presentation by Larry Brook, editor of the Southern Jewish Life magazine. Larry told us that his father, Julian Brook enjoys making creative tallitot, “to make the mitzvah fun”. Larry was inspired by his father to love and be creative with the mitzvah. Eli Brook (a fourth grader at the NEMJDS) seems to have inherited the passion as well.  As of today, Julian has made 25 tallitot. Larry brought a few tallitot that he made. One of his favorites is a camouflage tallit. He also taught us about the tzitzit on the tallit. The gematriya (numerical value) of tzitzit is 600, plus the eight strings, plus the five knots, equal 613, the number of mitzvot in the Torah. Thank you Larry Brook!!!
