At N.E. Miles Jewish Day School, we learn science by doing science – the scientific method teaches us to ask weighty questions, propose answers based on knowledge and experience, and then test hypotheses in an orderly way. We are problem solving, learning to write across the curriculum and applying math skills. When you visit our school, you will see STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art & Math) everywhere! In our integrated curriculum, we program our ozobots to narrate science fiction, factoids about the solar system and even Genesis. Our students tap onto their creativity as well as engineering skills as they design and build objects from recycled materials. Science is much more than a collection of facts, which, after all, changes over time. At the NEMJDS, the STEAM approach is a vital part of the curriculum that contributes to active learning and to developing the total child.
