Dear NEMJDS Parents,

Welcome to the 2015-2016/5776 school year! We look forward to another successful and productive year and hope, with your help, our Parents Association will continue to play a vital role in the success of our school.

We are very excited about being co-presidents this year. We look forward to supporting our school and strengthening our parent community. We have some exciting plans for our families, parents, teachers, and students, but we need your help - we need YOU!

At our Kickoff Breakfast on the first day of school, we had our grand opening of our Spirit Store and our first ever School Shirt Swap! We will continue to sell items from the Spirit Store. E-mail Marisa.Yammer@gmail.com or Abe@MetropolitanLLC.com for more information.

If you have not already we encourage families to pay their PA dues which are $75 per family. These funds help support Parent Association sponsored program such as Teacher Appreciation Week, Rosh Chodesh Ruach Birthday Treats, and Teacher Gifts. Our goal is 100% participation. The more dues we bring in the fewer fundraisers we need to have throughout the year. Checks should be made payable to the NEMJDS PTA.

Studies show that parental involvement in a child's education is one of the most important factors in raising student self-esteem and academic achievement. Moreover, most experts agree that parental involvement should go beyond attendance at teacher conferences and back to school nights. We realize, however, that each of our families is unique – with its own priorities, needs, talents, and time constraints -- and so our goal is t to try to provide as many different kinds of opportunities for parental involvement as possible.

Please review the volunteer opportunities suggested below, and check any you are interested in or tell us what you would like to do!! (Note: please click here if you'd prefer a printable form, and please return it to the school office!)

You will be contacted concerning the programs you are interested in by either one of the co-presidents, PA teacher representative, school administrator or chairperson closer to the date of the program or event.

Events:
Rosh Chodesh Ruach Recess and Birthday Celebrations (1x a month)
Sukkah Raising: September 27th
Family Chanukah Dessert Celebration, December 12th- set up and break down
Picture Day: May 4th

Listen to students read…Read to students-K and 1st grade

Library runner - retrieve and return books to and from local libraries
Car Pool for 6-7 grade students to visit various non-profits
Data input in fundraising data base
Note writing on fundraising materials to encourage giving
Help in Hebrew classrooms: looking for Hebrew proficiency
