At N. E. Miles Jewish Day School, our mission is to send well-educated “mensches” into the world, to make it a better place (Tikkun olam). In pursuit of that mission, the students at the Day School have asked themselves, “What should we expect from ourselves, so that our school is a place of learning, kindness and respect?” The answer is simple: “Work Hard. Be Nice.” The 4th through 8th grades made posters with the behaviors that reflect working hard and being nice.
The Upper Schoolers took this a step further by developing norms and linking them with text, proving that examining our values on the road to Menschlichkeit is well worth the time.
