In Kindergarten, we are learning Hebrew letters by matching them to Judaic values and lessons. We started with the letter, “shin”, which we match with Shabbat. We learned that Hashem created the world in six days and on the seventh, He rested, so that’s when we rest, too. This makes Shabbat a special, holy day and we have learned how to celebrate it with Kiddush, challah, candles and dinner with friends and family.
In addition, we have read a book about how to celebrate Shabbat and in response, have made festive “Shabbat Boxes” that contain all that we need to make every Shabbat special and meaningful. We decorated a Kiddush cup, challah cover, flowers and a vase and finally, we learned how to make, braid and bake challah. We love Shabbat!
